News from January TWICT meeting

At its meeting on 10th January the TWICT board discussed future strategies for on-street kiosks and investigated 'the Sunderland Model' for wireless infrastructure as part of a consideration of wireless strategies. Also considered were links with universities, corporate value for money indicators, next generation broadband access and data centres.

News from TWICT December meeting

The TWICT partnership met on 13th December. GJ gave a presentation on trends in web services development that were collectively known as ‘Web 2.0’. Key to changes were that end users are now participating in content creation, that the speed of application development and ease of integration now mean it is more straightforward to create new web services and that users can choose how, when and through what method they access services.

Web 2.0 Presentation

At its meeting on 13th December, the Tyne and Wear ICT Partnership discussed the concepts, strengths, opportunities and threats posed by Web2.0 technologies (such as Facebook, Meebo, Zoho and Flickr – to name a few), and their potential impact on Council strategies. Tyne & Wear ICT Partnership Meeting 13th December 2007

The next meeting of TWICT will be held at 10am on Thursday 13th December at Gateshead Civic Centre The meeting will discuss Web 2.0 and its relevance to councils (presentation will be uploaded to www.twict.gov.uk after the meeting), an update on the current projects, and consider a schedule of meetings for 2008.

ShiNE-y Happy People

The Tyne and Wear ICT Partnership has submitted an entry ‘A Replicable Model for Successful Joint Working’ to the Partnership Category of the ShiNE Awards 2008. The ShiNE Awards 2008 are organised by the Association of North East Councils and sponsored by the Improvement Partnership for North East Local Government and are a celebration and an opportunity to share best practice in local government right across the North East.
