Subject: Outsourcing V's Resourcing Debate - The Results

Good Morning,

A quick email to say the results are in from the North East IT Manager network debate: Outsourcing v's Resourcing on 6th September.

Gary Slater, IT Manager, Business Link North East argued a very strong case for outsourcing highlighting response times, SLAs, cost savings, industry knowledge, remote fixes, recruitment & HR cost savings, and the ability to focus on both short and long term objectives.

The key rebuttal against outsourcing, and for resourcing, was in relation to application development as due to the critical nature of internal software development it needs to be developed inhouse.

So the results;

Resourcing: 50% (but a 50/50 split between resoucing for development and outsourcing for technical support)
Outsourcing: 50%

Our next North East IT Manager Network event, Web 2.0 in Business is on 8th November, Newcastle. Our initial working document looks like this;

This event will look at the use of Web 2.0 technologies and tools within regular business. Do IT departments and Marketing departments need to consider using Web 2.0 technologies or marketing channels? The event will also take a look at Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Web usability and accessibility, are these important Web 2.0 features businesses need to consider?

More details to follow soon.
