Connexions vacancy system is e-government award finalist

Connexions Tyne and Wear are delighted to report that their online vacancy system which helps young job seekers in the North East of England find employment or training has been nominated as a finalist in the 2007 e-Government National Awards.

The vacancy system, used by over six thousand people each month, allows jobseekers to search and apply for a wide range of jobs online. Users are also shown details of relevant work based training opportunities which might also be of interest. Users who register will receive email alerts to let them know when new jobs are available. There is also a CV creator and many other features that make this a truly innovative system.

Not only are these jobs available on the Connexions website (

www.connexions-tw.co.uk) or on a mobile phone, they are also available via 52 Cityspace i+ kiosks located across Tyne and Wear.

The annual e-Government National Awards has become the UK's highest level commendation for the best e-Government services which have positively transformed the lives of citizens, local communities, business and stakeholder groups.

Finalists include a great diversity and spread of excellence in e-Government and public sector services right across the UK. Councils, central government departments, non-departmental public bodies and voluntary organisations are all represented in these 'best of the best' awards.

A key theme in this year's finalists list is social inclusion, and the use of innovative technology to deliver services to help the disadvantaged.

This year's finalists have been chosen from among the record 527 nominations that were submitted by professionals working across the public sector. The judging panel was headed by Government Chief Information Officer John Suffolk, based at Cabinet Office.

The winners will be announced and presented with their e-Government National Awards on 22nd January 2008 at a black-tie ministerial dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
